Sleepwalkers

It was so hard to describe/tag their music. This young band from Worcester, Massachusetts is playing something different, original and atypical. Before I had downloaded their EP I read that their music is 'Experimantal Hardcore', but when I have listened it, I can easily say that this is something much more than that: non-standard way of singing, broken rythm and melodies... It's really hard to define it. For sure I will wait for some new stuff.

Złodzieje Rowerów can be translated as Bicycles Thieves, they took this name after an Italian movie “Ladri di Biciclette” directed by Vittorio De Sica. In Poland the band is a hardcore punk legend and no one can take this title from them. I am brave enough to tell that a lot of their musical work connects them with emotional hardcore scene. But I am aware of the fact that I might receive a decent kick in the teeth just for using emo word in the same sentence with ZxRx. And my opinion isn't just based on one o their releases' title (Emo'la). Vocal, lyrics and the way music hits your ears speak for itself - best connection of HCPunk's aggressiveness and emo's expression. At least in the Eastern Europe.

We Made God

We Made God is a young icelandic band, whose mucis is a blend of post-rock and post-metal mixed with atmospheric clean vocal parts (sometimes screams). On their lastfm page someones wrote: "If normal pop music is like watching a sunny day through a passenger window, We Made God’s music would be like riding a monster truck through a blizzard. Violent and adrenaline filled, broken up by the occasional calm eye of the storm."

Evan Abeele is definately specyfic artist. His music is a minimalistic mixture of samples and looped ambient tones with some monotonic piano sounds. As his myspace bio says: “Blending elements of modern classical, ambient, and minimalism into a style that evokes the sounds of Arvo Pärt by way of Boards of Canada. The compositions feature a microscopic focus on texture that emphasizes the relationship between the human organization of noise and sound. Deriving inspiration from the musique concrete movement of 1960’s France, the compositions forgo conventional classical aesthetics in favor of haunting, strangely familiar sounds.” Beautiful ambient music! Taste it!

Namatjira

Namatjira is a screamo band from Tula (a town in european part of Russia). To describe their music, the easiest way is to say 'screamo' but these guys think a little bit wider: “After all we don’t play screamo for screamo’s sake. We’re not interested in development of Russian screamo scene but in punk scene as a whole, as a wide community of openminded people with no prejudice. Let’s hug each other and escape from boredom of modern society!” I can add that the vocal on EP sounds a little bit similiar as Hats Off, Gentelmen (even these guys looks similiar - maybe it's the same person?).

F.S. Blumm & Nils Frahm

And there is a similiar situation as in post below. A blend of styles and kinds of music makes me decide to put this album apart from 'Nils Frahm' post. A collaboration between the Berliners F.S. Blumm and Nils Frahm create the improvisational and jazz-tinged digital album Music For Lovers Music Versus Time, contained beside neoclassical tones, also full of experimental sounds from life for example falling ping-pong ball, sounds of steps on stairs etc... So complicated, not easy-listening, but also so interested and intrigued.

Nils Frahm & Anne Müller

I've considered if add this album to the 'Nils Frahm' post, but finally I decided to set it apart. Reason? The music which is presented by this two people is completly different than this in his solo albums. Unknown for everybody Anne Müller add to the Nils' neo-classical music some kind of magic hidden in electronic sounds. For me it's the one of the best albums of the year and their mixtures of classical music and electronic sometimes are even better than masterpieces of Ólafur Arnalds!

Nils Frahm

Nils Frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. During his childhood he was taught to play piano by Nahum Brodski – a student of the last scholar of Tschaikowski. It was through this that Nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. Today Nils Frahm works as an accomplished composer and producer in Berlin. For me, actually he is the one of the best modern yong artists from that genre.

Their music is a mixture of soft and sensual sonuds of many instruments for example: violin, cello, piano, flute, guitar (elecric and acoustic), rattles, tambourine and I don't even know what else... Worth to check!

A Cold Dead Body

A Cold Dead Body is an italian musical project born in 2005. Their music is something like blend of soft post rock impressions with heavy post metal parts and everything is finished by beautiful violin sounds. All of that music arrangement is mixed by growls and clean vocals, which is actually atypical for post metal genre and makes them quite unique. This is another italian band, next to fantastic Amia Venera Landscape, which playing that kind of music interest me SO MUCH - maybe I schould check more of groups from that european country?

A Lot Like Birds

They describe themselves as 5-8 piece post-hardcore band. I checked their facebook profile and I can tell that number of people involved in this project is way bigger. There is a lot progressiveness in their music, we can hear a lot of solos on various instruments and the songs are still aggressive enough to be called post-hardcore. Definitely worth checking as screams are also very good. Personally I hate saxophone in any genre but here it became acceptable for me.

Junius

Junius is an american post-rock band from Bostion. They don't sound like the "classic" post-rock. This is an amazing mix of influences. Band create their own style. Every track is stellar, complex and thematically cohesive. It's pretty hard to get accustomed to their vocals, but when you break this barrier you will find unique, innovative music and a lot of magic in the air.

Mogwai NEW!

I think I really don't have to introduce this band, cause everybody who interest in post-rock music, even just a little, know them or heard something about them. Since this scotish group is one of the main bands in instrumental-post rock scene, and also one of the most recognizable. You can read on their lastfm: "They compose lengthy, mostly instrumental guitar-based pieces, usually focused around the elaboration of a single theme, and are known traditionally for their quiet/loud dynamic, defined bass riffs, and an eminent ambient sound, sometimes dark and sometimes grand." If someone doesn't know them, definately should change that!
